My reason for liking Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven

 

‘The Raven’ represents life and death. The raven has come into the narrator’s life and is showing him that if he lives in the past, he will be trapped there forever. The narrator is seeking answers from the raven, who sitting on the bust of Pallas (goddess of wisdom), asking the raven whether Lenore is in heaven and happy. The raven replies nevermore – meaning think of this no more.  In the end the narrator is trapped in his anger and hatred. "And my soul from out that shadow shall be lifted, nevermore" and does not heed the Raven’s word – ‘nevermore’. So we should live for today, don’t dwell on yesterday. We can’t bring back yesterday and we can’t be promised a tomorrow. Live for the now. That is why I like this poem. It is a reminder to me to live and not to be trapped by other things out of our control.
